Can the Union get back to their winning ways at home? Jim Curtin had some remarks ahead of his press conference today.
Head Coach Jim Curtin’s Opening Remarks
Jim started off by discussing the team not playing a full 90 minutes yet this season. “We know we’re capable of playing some pretty amazing soccer,” Curtin added. “But what we haven’t done is do it for the complete 90 minutes. And I’m not saying the perfect 90 minutes, a complete 90 minutes and that’s been our, our focus this week and stressing to the players.”
He went on to discuss tomorrow’s opponent Orlando City FC, a club that is currently 4th from the bottom in Major League Soccer and searching for points. “A team that’s very well coached by Oscar Pareja team that has some really good quality, individual pieces, and a team that is hungry for points,” he said. “I thought an unfair result in their last game. So a dangerous opponent. We know at Subaru Park, our fans will be behind us.”
We all know that the last time they came to Subaru Park they snapped the Union’s 24 game home unbeaten streak. With the Union having a two game home losing streak from the first time since 2021, you will have to go back to 2012 for the last time the Union lost 3 at home in a row.
Other Press Conference Updates
Leon Flach’s performance in D.C.
Jillian asked Jim Curtin about having Leon Flach back and him rotating in with Jack McGlynn and partnering with Kai on that left side. He had a lot of praise for Leon and his skills he brings to the team.
“I think with Leon, first and foremost, it’s just great to see him back on the field with a smile on his face. I don’t think people understand how how lonely it is with injuries, with serious injuries, he had a surgery to a pectoral muscle which doesn’t happen often in soccer- literally on the first, I think it was the second training session in total of preseason, so and then before that obviously had injuries last year that kept them out for you know, the better part of 7-8 months.”
“He provides such great ball winning and defensive work rate for the group and then is underrated with the ball as well with his decision making, doing the simple things, connecting his passes and it was it was great to have him back.”
On Mikeal Uhre
As Jim said in D.C that Uhre did not start due to form, he explained that more in his comments today. “He knows what he’s capable of. He also just had a child, so there are always variables off the field that can complicate things and family always comes first. But again, the reality of all strikers- and Uhre would be the one to tell you this- is you know they’re they’re going to be judged by how many times the ball hits the back of the net. And that’s that’s the reality, we still want him to do. All the defensive work that we require. But at the same time now in this stadium, he has a way of of doing big things.”
Injury Report
There is the injury report via Todd Lewis of The Free Kick for tomorrow. Jim did say that both Blake and Mbiazo are out for tomorrow’s game.
We will see how this game plays out tomorrow, but ether way it will be a sell out and a fun time.
Let’s get 3 points. #DOOP
