CHESTER, Pa.—After rumors started swirling recently of a departure to DC United, the Philadelphia Union announced today that Israeli forward Tai Baribo is on the move down I-95 to the nearby foe. In exchange for the striker, the Union will acquire a guaranteed $4 million and up to an additional $600,000 if certain performance metrics are met.

The 27-year-old Baribo, the Union’s top goal scorer of 2025 (20 total) and an MLS All Star, came to Philadelphia in August 2023 from Wolfsberger AC, but struggled to find playing time. He finally broke out in 2024, scoring 17 goals and winning the Leagues Cup Golden Boot. His success continued into 2025, where he began the season at a blazing pace, including a hat trick in the home opener against FC Cincinnati. He also was the MLS All Star Game MVP after scoring the game-winner.

Baribo also has been a member of the Isreali National Team with 23 caps and four goals.

From the Union’s press release:

“We want to thank Tai for his contributions to the club. Tai is a true professional and gave everything he had during his time here,” said Philadelphia Union head coach Bradley Carnell. “At this time, we believe this move is in the best interest of both the club and player. This provides financial opportunities to continue to invest in the team this offseason while providing space for emerging talent on our roster. It also allows Tai to continue the next phase in his career. We wish him and his family all the best in the next chapter of his career.”

The announcement comes just two days after long-time Union defender Jakob Glesnes, along with Academy prospect Jamir Johnson, were traded to LA Galaxy for GAM.
