Union II’s top goal scorer from 2024 looks to make his mark

Chester, PA – Forward Eddy Davis, an 18 year old Los Angeles native, has signed a homegrown deal with the Philadelphia Union after a record-breaking season with Union II in 2024. The contract is for three years (through 2027) with options for 2028 and 2029. Eddy is the 28th homegrown signing with the Union and third this season.
In 2024 with Union II, he led the team in goals (13 regular season), a team record, and also had a goal in the MLS Next Pro Cup, as well as four assists. He was a three-time MLS Next Pro Rising Star of the Month and was fourth in goals for the league in the regular season and tied for first in shots on target.

From the Union’s press release:
“Eddy took a big step in his growth and development last year, proving himself to be a relentless striker,” said Philadelphia Union Sporting Director, Ernst Tanner. “His ability to read the game and create scoring opportunities makes him a valuable asset. He has the mentality and passion we look for in young players and is a prime example of the strong talent we continue to foster in our system.”
After being a multi-sport athlete growing up, Eddy really started to focus on soccer around age 12. He comes from a very athletic family, with both parents being accomplished in track and his grandfather played and managed in the MLB. Eddy began in the LAFC academy, and then went to the New York Red Bulls Academy, but Red Bulls wanted him to play left back. Eddy wanted to be a striker and moved to Philadelphia’s academy in 2022 as it was a better fit for his ambitions. He first appeared with Union II in 2023, and in 2024 he played as an amateur with Union II. If you are wondering why he did not receive any MLS Next Pro honors at the end of the 2024 season, it was due to his amateur status from what then-head coach Marlon LeBlanc stated. Eddy’s gamble on himself has seemingly worked out in his favor, and in this writer’s opinion, he has so much more room to grow as he takes this next step in his career.
