CHESTER, Pa.— With less than the a month before the Philadelphia Union are back in MLS action on Wednesday, July 22nd against Red Bull New York, the club announced today additions to Interim Head Coach Ryan Richter’s staff with the additions of Fred Da Silva, Henry Apaloo, and Ben Moane on the interim basis.

Da Silva and Apaloo were part of Richter’s Union II staff that guided the second team to 58 points in 2025 and all the way to the MLS NEXT Pro Eastern Conference Finals, where they eventually fell to MLS NEXT Pro Cup champions New York Red Bulls II.

Da Silva will serve as an assistant coach with Richter’s first-team staff. Following a professional career that saw him play in Brazil, Australia, and MLS with D.C. United and the Philadelphia Union, he scored five goals and recorded one assist in 42 matches for the Union.

Following his professional retirement, Da Silva joined the Philadelphia Union Academy in 2016, coaching the U-12 squad. A year later, he took over the U-17 team, a role he held until 2020, when he became the head coach of Union III before joining Richter with Union II in 2025.

Apaloo joined the Union Academy in 2022 following a stint with Aberdeen FC in Scotland as the club’s first-team assistant head of analysis. After coaching the Academy’s U-15 squad, Apaloo joined Richter’s staff in 2025 and will serve as an analyst and assistant coach.

As for Ben Moane, he joined Philadelphia’s Academy in 2025 following his time as an assistant coach with the Stanford University men’s soccer team. Prior to that, he held head coaching and leadership roles with the Boston Bolts in USL League Two.

During his time with the Academy, he guided the U-15 squad to the 2025 MLS NEXT Cup championship and a 2026 MLS NEXT Cup semifinal appearance.

As for the remainder of Richter’s staff, first-team coaches Phil Wheddon and Frank Leicht remain with the club following the departure of former manager Bradley Carnell.

Philadelphia will host a friendly tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. against MLS Western Conference opponent Houston Dynamo. The match will mark the return of former Union homegrown Jack McGlynn to Philadelphia for the first time since his trade prior to the 2025 MLS season.
