On Saturday, the Philadelphia Union hit the road once again, traveling to Harrison, New Jersey, to take on Red Bull New York in what always promises to be a tough, physical contest between the two Eastern Conference rivals.

Are you heading up to Sports Illustrated Stadium for either a day trip or a weekend getaway? If so, there are plenty of things to see and check out in the area.

With that said, let’s take a look at a few spots to check out while you are in town for the match. If you have any additional travel questions, feel free to reach out to me at my travel email: Kyle@madhatteradv.com.

Places to Visit

The area that includes the town of Harrison was originally part of a land grant given to Captain William Sandford of the Barbados Islands. The 30,000-acre grant was situated between the Passaic and Hackensack Rivers and extended from Newark Bay to what is present-day Rutherford. Sandford named the region “New Barbados Neck” after his home. He sent his nephew, Major Nathaniel Kingsland, to enter into an agreement to purchase the land from the Unami tribe, a branch of the Lenni Lenape, the original inhabitants of the area.

With that said, here are a few recommendations to check out before or after the match.
