CHESTER, Pa. — The Philadelphia Union announced today that they have terminated the loan of forward Markus Anderson with USL Championship side Brooklyn FC and loaned him out to Lyngby Boldklub of the Danish first division for the remainder of 2026.

The 22-year-old Brooklyn, New York native was sent on loan back in February of this year to the Championship expansion side, a move that reunited him with former Philadelphia Union II head coach Marlon LeBlanc, for whom he played a vital role in the squad’s run to the 2024 MLS NEXT Pro Final. That season, the forward appeared in 16 matches, scoring 7 goals and registering 3 assists.

Upon landing in Brooklyn, his hometown, the New York native appeared in 19 matches, scoring 8 goals to go along with four assists across all competitions for LeBlanc’s squad.

Overall, during his time with the second team, Anderson contributed 13 goals and 8 assists across 40 matches at the NEXT Pro level and 1 goal in 7 matches with the Philadelphia Union in Major League Soccer.

The impending loan was first reported by Rasmus Elmdal Glud of the Danish outlet Bold and later confirmed by Jose Nuñez, who also mentioned that the move included a purchase option, per sources.

While there was no mention of the purchase option in the Union’s press release, the Danish side did mention it in their announcement of the loan. Anderson’s contract with Philadelphia runs through 2026; however, there are team options for the 2027 and 2028 calendar years.

“I am very happy to now be part of Lyngby Boldklub,” Anderson said per Lyngby’s official announcment. “I have had good conversations with the staff in Philadelphia and here in Lyngby and also with Neil Pierre, who was here last season. Neil loved being in Lyngby and has only spoken highly of both the club and the environment here, so I am very much looking forward to getting started.”

As many Union fans are aware of the partnership between the Philadelphia Union and Lyngby Boldklub, they are also aware that this is not the first time a first-teamer has gone on loan in Denmark.

As Anderson mentioned, Neil Pierre spent the first half of 2026 on loan there, appearing in 9 matches and scoring 2 goals during his loan. As we all know, since returning from his loan, he now has 4 goals in 7 matches in MLS play and has been a major piece in Philly’s run of form.

Markus’s loan will not go without a familiar face in the squad, as former defensive midfielder Sanders Ngabo returns to Lyngby Boldklub on a loan deal from Swedish side BK Häcken. Both players played together during the 2024 MLS NEXT Pro season on Union II.

Lyngby’s next match will be this Friday, September 4, as they face off against Viborg FF.
